The Truth About Facelifts

surgical facelift washington dcIt seems as though many medical spas and aesthetic practices are promising clients a new approach to facelifts.  With the advancement of non-invasive anti-aging procedures (such as Liquid facelifts with Botox and laser rejuvenation treatments), many individuals believe they can achieve the same results from these services as a traditional facelift.

However, the truth about facelifts is that there is no comparison to the efficacy of a surgical facelift – and here’s why:

  • At first glance, the aging process seems to be limited to your superficial appearance.  But wrinkles and fine lines aren’t limited to the surface of your skin; in fact, the aging process displaces the underlying tissues, like muscle and fat.  If you only treat the surface of the skin, you’re not effectively tackling the real cause of your sagging skin and jawline.

Only a traditional facelift can pull the muscles and skin back to pre-aging levels, resulting in a refreshed appearance that looks completely natural.

  • Botox and dermal fillers are often used in “liquid facelifts,” which provide temporary volume and smoothness to facial skin and features.  While liquid facelifts can be appropriate for patients who don’t want to undergo traditional surgery, it’s important to note that these results aren’t permanent.  Many non-invasive facelifts only last for a year, as they utilize fillers that have very limited lifespan.

When compared to the long-term results of a traditional facelift, it’s important for patients to consider the long-term benefits of this procedure.  It can be ideal for clients who don’t want to pay for a new procedure every year.

  • Many laser rejuvenation treatments claim they can offer the same results as a traditional facelift; yet like dermal fillers and injections, they can only treat your skin at the very surface.  This means that any youthful results will only be temporary, requiring you to make several trips over the course of a year.  These visits also come at a price; laser rejuvenation procedures can be expensive.  If you compare the cost of a one-time facelift versus laser rejuvenation procedure costs, you just might find that there’s very little difference.

Only a traditional facelift can give you the refreshed and rejuvenated look you’re after.  If you’re interested in scheduling a consultation for this procedure, contact Dr. Banks and her team at Beaux Arts Institute of Plastic Surgery, now with two locations: Glenn Dale and Lanham, Maryland. Both locations serve the greater Baltimore and Washington DC metropolitans.
