What is Lip Augmentation?

Lip augmentation is a popular treatment that is used to plump up your lips. For those of us who were not born with full, sexy lips, there are a variety of procedures that can be used to give you that Angelina Jolie-style pout. And one of the most popular treatments is using lip augmentation fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm.

How Does Lip Augmentation Work?

There are several different types of lip augmentation fillers that can be used to plump your pout, including those made from human-based collagen, bovine-based collagen and hyaluronic acid. Each are effective in their own right, offering subtle differences. For example, human-based collagen fillers are biocompatible and may last for four months or more, while bovine-based collagen may give a more permanent result, as it suspends polymethylmethacrylate microspheres that lodge in the lips even after the collagen dissipates.

The longest-lasting fillers of all tend to be the hyaluronic acid-derived fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm. These are made of a safe, clear gel containing a naturally occurring polysaccharide that already exists in the skin, and they give very natural results.
