What is a Face Lift?

How is a Face Lift Performed?
At the start of a rhytidectomy, or facelift, Dr. Banks makes the incision at the hairline and in the crease in front of the ear to minimize scarring. The skin is pulled taught but not tight, allowing you surgeon to remove excess skin. The fibrous layer of tissue under the skin, called the SMAS, is also pulled taught. This increases the power of the lift and improves the long-term results. If you have loose muscles in the neck, another incision that is hidden under the chin is used to tighten these muscles.
How Do I Know if a Face Lift is Right for Me?
Facelifts are for men who wish to remove the saggy, hanging skin that is making them appear older than they are. This is not the right procedure for men who wish to smooth skin and remove wrinkles; however, Dr. Banks does offer dermal fillers for this desire. Sometimes these and chemical peels can help uphold the results of a facelift, though.

What Type of Post-Operative Face Lift Care Can I Expect?
After three days, your initial dressings will be removed and after about one week the sutures are taken out. There may be some bruising or swelling. in the first week or two. Most Washington D.C. and Columbia men experience a two-week recovery period for a facelift.
