Meet Dr. Banks

Dr. Nia Banks is a board-certified plastic surgeon based in Lanham, MD, whose goal is to provide the highest level of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery in a personalized manner. She does not believe in one aesthetic standard for all people. Rather, Dr. Banks develops individualized treatment plans in partnership with her patients that are designed to maximize the appearance and function of each individual. Dr. Banks treats patients in and around Lanham, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Bethesda, Rockville, Silver Spring, Annapolis and Columbia, MD. Let us assist you with all your reconstructive and cosmetic surgery needs.

Dr. Banks completed her surgical training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, where she was the first resident to complete the Johns Hopkins Integrated Residency Program in plastic and reconstructive surgery. She gained expertise in microsurgery and breast reconstruction, including the DIEP flap, at the Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Comprehensive Breast Center. As the chief resident, Dr. Banks excelled in the Johns Hopkins resident cosmetic surgery clinic and authored many publications in the field of plastic surgery, including a book chapter on breast and trunk reconstruction.

After leaving Baltimore, she completed a craniofacial fellowship at the Hospital Necker-Enfants Malades in Paris, France, with Dr. Eric Arnaud. There, she participated in reconstructive surgery for children with congenital anomalies. Dr. Banks returned to Paris in the Spring of 2009 to work with Dr. Francoise Firmin, widely recognized as the best ear reconstructive surgeon in Europe, to learn how to reconstruct ears for patients who have been victims of accidents or children born with malformations of the ear. While working in Paris, she also learned new concepts in aesthetic surgery of the face and breast, which she incorporates into her practice. She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and a diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
