How to Find the Right Plastic Surgeon

Dr Nia BanksWhen you’re interested in undergoing a cosmetic or surgical procedure, you want to ensure that you’re entrusting your body and safety to the right hands.  After all, treatment can vary from surgeon to surgeon, which means you want to find the ideal professional for your particular procedure.  Additionally, not all surgeons will have similar levels of education, training, and credentials, all of which should play a critical role in choosing the right plastic surgeon.

If you’d like to undergo a cosmetic procedure but you’re not sure how to find the right plastic surgeon, consider asking yourself the following questions:

  1. aspsIs the physician a board-certified plastic surgeon?  One of the most basic requirements you should have for selecting a plastic surgeon is a board certification from a recognized and esteemed cosmetic surgery board.  This certification is indicative of the training he or she has had, and a signifier of his or her excellence within his or her respective field.  If a surgeon is not certified or is board-certified with an unknown organization, it’s best to steer clear.
  2. Does the physician have extensive training?  Another great indicator of a high-quality plastic surgeon is if he or she has had extensive training or a variety of academic posts.  Look for plastic surgeons who have served on various plastic surgery boards, have been professors or teachers at universities, and have displayed a commitment toward continuing education.
  3. Has the physician published any research?  The more a physician has been published, the more likely it is that he or she has an esteemed reputation within the world of medicine.  Published physicians are more likely to have the kind of training and educational background you need to ensure you’re working with the est.
  4. Do I like my physician?  Of course, it’s important to find a plastic surgeon who you have rapport with.  This ensures that your surgeon understands your ideal results and will work hard to help you achieve them.
