What to Look for in a Plastic Surgeon

Dr Nia BanksCongratulations – you’ve made the decision to undergo plastic surgery.  You’re excited for this major life change, and you can’t wait to show off those soon-to-be stunning results.   But while you’re doing more research on what procedure you’d like to undergo, keep this in mind…

You need to perform just as much research on your plastic surgeon!

Why You Should Always Research Your Surgeon

Unfortunately, not all plastic surgeons are created equal.  While one plastic surgeon may have the skills and expertise necessary for delivering exceptional results, another might not have the same skillset.  Worse still, there are plastic surgeons out there who purposefully make themselves look like professionals – only to use dangerous and banned materials during procedures.

Plastic surgery isn’t something that should be taken lightly.  You deserve to work with the best of the best – and that means performing as much research as possible on any plastic surgeon you’re interested in.

To ensure you’re picking the best plastic surgeon possible, use the research tips provided by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Nia Banks of Beaux Arts Institute of Plastic Surgery:

  • Look for a plastic surgeon who’s been certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons; this is the premier organization responsible for vetting and certifying plastic surgeons. Look for board certification in your plastic surgeon’s bio.  You should also search the plastic surgeon on the Board’s site to see if their credentials are correct: http://www.plasticsurgery.org/
  • Search for impeccable educational credentials. Ideally, you want your plastic surgeon to be trained by top medical schools within the country. This prestige shows that your plastic surgeon was trained by the best of the best.
  • Conduct an online search for third-party patient reviews. Don’t just trust the reviews on the plastic surgeon’s website, as these are cherry-picked.  Instead, search the plastic surgeon’s name and the word “reviews” in a search engine.  See what results come up!
  • Make sure you look at before & after cases as well. These will provide you a clearer idea of what kind of work your plastic surgeon could produce. You may find these cases online, or you could request them from the plastic surgeon during your consultation.

By using the above research tips, you can ensure your body is in the hands of the best of the best.
